Good Faith Estimates
If you don’t have insurance or are not using it, you can ask for an estimate of expected charges before scheduled care.
How it works
- 1
Ask, or schedule ahead
Providers should give an estimate when you schedule care in advance or when you ask for one.
- 2
Review the estimate
It lists the items and services the provider reasonably expects to bill.
- 3
Compare with the bill
If the bill is at least $400 more than the estimate for any provider or facility, you may be able to dispute it through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.
