BrightPay Health Corp was founded in 2021. Shielvonda Haith’s daughter had an urgent healthcare need that required more than $7,000 of out-of-pocket costs for her care. Financially unprepared and unable to find any financing options, she experienced first-hand how important access to healthcare financing truly is (Bham Now).

“What was missing in the system that day was a clear path to understanding my costs as the patient for services I was going to have to schedule,” she told Hypepotamus.

Haith and co-founder Archie Otu combined their experience in health tech and insurance to build a digital payment platform that pairs price transparency with flexible payment options, wrapped in a package that’s easy for doctors to use. The team surveyed hundreds of patients, launched an alpha app in November 2021 and joined the Antler investment portfolio (StartUp Health, 2022).

BrightPay started in Atlanta. Its first experience in Birmingham was the 12-week Prosper HealthTech Accelerator, powered by gener8tor, and the company relocated to the city to tap into its growing HealthTech and BioTech infrastructure. Why Birmingham.
